A Japanese Oomurasaki (Sasakia charonda) butterfly is pictured at the Oomurasaki Center and Nature Park in Hokuto, Yamanashi Prefecture.
About 1,000 butterflies at the center began emerging from their cocoons at the end of June.
The butterflies, whose colorful wings glisten in the sunlight, have attracted many visitors. The peak in newly emerged butterflies is expected to last until about July 10.
